Description of the subject : Students will have preliminary knowledge of the scientific study of language, as opposed to the traditional approaches to language study, and major themes in linguistics .This course focusses on abroad overview of the nature of language, the various levels of linguistics structures (phonetics, morphology, syntax, semantics); language use (speech acts, pragmatics) ; different branches of linguistics (historical,general,descriptive,comparative,constrastive,structural) ; traditional grammar.
